Grades 9-12. With this kit's activities, students observe a study site to determine population density and biomass. They record organisms present in the study site and construct a food chain and a food web based on those findings. Students use quadrat sampling to determine the population density of a target species. They then find the biomass of the target species and apply the ecological rule of thumb to relate the standing crop biomass and energy transfer between trophic levels. Kit accommodates a class of 30 students working in pairs.
