Students explore the process of transformation as they build toward further understanding of heritability and the use of biotechnology. In the Guided Investigation, students perform a transformation activity using sterile technique. They build knowledge regarding plasmid function, genotype/phenotype connection, and antibiotic resistance. Then during the Inquiry Investigation, students design a new experiment to further develop their understanding of transformation. Kit includes enough materials for 8 groups. Time Requirement
60 minutes of preparation before both the Pre-Lab and Guided Investigation. The Pre-Lab takes approximately 60 minutes, while the Guided Investigation takes 3 60-minute class periods. The time required for the Inquiry Investigation will vary based on students' plans.
