Children explore the form and function of plant and animal cells on their own. Using this kit, students work in pairs to build a model of a plant or animal cell using craft materials to represent different cell parts and organelles. Before building their models, students draw parallels between the model parts and the cell components they represent. Once the models are assembled, students compare the contents and structure of the plant and animal cell models.

Also includes a comprehensive teacher's manual with reproducible student sheets. Designed for 30 students. Also includes materials for teacher to create one example cell model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This product worked well for me with children in grades 4-6. This summer I presented a hands-on class at our county library for children entering grades 4-6. The library wanted the kids to have a "take-away" at the end of the session. The description for this activity stated that there were enough materials for 30 children. This was misleading. I assumed that meant every child would be able to make their own cell(s). The activity actually requires you to pair kids up. At the end of the activity the class will have made 7 animal cells and 7 plant cells. There was then one of each for the teacher to make as a sample. As for the quality of the activity, I loved it and would use this kit again. Creating cells in this manner increased the quality of the conversation I was able to have with the kids about the individual organelles. I like the fact that all the materials were safe and could be disposed of in the regular garbage.
