This kit features our Instant Enzymes and Instant DNA. No more pipetting errors when adding enzyme to DNA; no more freezer storage or frozen samples; no more next day and ice pack shipping charges. The stable Instant DNA is simply rehydrated with distilled or deionized water. After hydration, DNA is added to the tubes containing the Instant Enzymes (BamHI, EcoRI, and HindIII) and incubated at 37° C. After incubation, the DNA samples are electrophoresed on an agarose gel and stained.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from restriction - yes, analysis - no. All students will be able to do with this kit is to cut lambda into pieces with 3 enzymes. With 4-5 fragments in each digestion, double-digestions are a mess of numerous fragments and no mapping is possible. So what do students learn by doing this experiment? That restriction enzymes cut DNA? Carolina should replace lambda with a suitable plasmid with 1-2 restriction site for each enzyme. Or remove the word "analysis" from the name of the product. I do not recommend this kit to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleased with Purchase I had done ethidium bromide staining for years before I started teaching. That required a UV-light box, a UV-filter/camera set up, UV-face shield, etc. So being able to do this as a high school lab without having to have all the other equipment made this purchase very attractive to me. (Not to mention that your high schoolers don't have to work with a mutagen!) Anyway, this kit worked very well. It was a little disconcerting that the bromophenol blue band from the loading dye dissipated into the Carolina BLU-treated gel and running buffer. So I did not have a sign to watch for to turn off the electrophoresis. Do not panic if you cannot see any bands when you add the final stain for 20 minutes. I didn't either but as I destained with distilled water, they appeared clearly. Destaining was a bit inconvenient in the time that it took, but I was just impatient to see the results. I had good photography results by wrapping the gels in plastic wrap and laying on a color-flatbed scanner. Overall, I am well pleased with this purchase.
