Students can easily study the sex-linked, recessive, and dominant mutations. Drosophila yields many flies from just one vial of our media. Chromosome 1 Mutants (sex-linked) are easy-to-score strains which are excellent for beginning genetics. These flies are also recommended for investigating sex-linked inheritance. The yellow Bar mutation is able to demonstrate recessive, dominant, and sex-linked characteristics in a single cross with a wild male.

Each culture vial contains approximately 25–30 adult flies capable of producing over 50 offspring (1–2 per adult) over a span of 2 weeks, given proper care and environmental conditions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from the Bar allele was reverted In the fall of 2013, I ordered yellow, Bar only to observe that the Bar allele had reverted. Many males had wild type eyes and females with incomplete Bar eyes, yet all flies were yellow. I resorted to purifying the stock myself with some rather simple crosses. In the spring of 2013, I reordered this fly stock only to see the same issue. Moreover, other fly stocks contained MITES! CAROLINA NEEDS TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY CONTROL!
