Especially made for mounting botanical and zoological specimens. The bottom is a cardboard box filled with absorbent cotton. The top is glass neatly glued to both sides of lid. Note: Dimensions given are for the mount bottoms only. Placing the tops on the mounts adds 1/4" to width and length and 1/8" to height. For example, a 6 x 8 x 3/4" mount measures 6-1/4 x 8-1/4 x 7/8" with its top in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from These are great! I love Riker Mounts! I purchased these to make displays of different types of teeth and different seed dispersal adaptations. The kits will be carried by guides in the field for 1st grade field trips. The displays look beautiful and the batting helps keep everything in place. The only thing I would like to add is a plexi vs glass lid option to prevent breakage in the field.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My New Source for Riker Mounts Anyone interested in collecting and displaying butterflies, moths and other insects needs Riker Mounts. I used to buy from a different source until I discovered Carolina.com. Excellent quality, shipped fast, and the prices are very competitive. A few tips for collectors: Buy Riker Mounts in a variety of sizes so you've always got exactly the right one on hand. If you're displaying large butterflies or moths, you may want to clip out a small 'well' in the backing material so you won't squash your specimens. The display results are much better. With Riker Mounts, the backing material may tend to snag insect legs - so be careful in your placement and try not to mess with your specimens once they're in there.
