S. apoda, S. uncinata, and S. kraussiana. All can be cultivated in a greenhouse or in a small terrarium.
Selaginella species, also known as spikemosses or lesser clubmosses, are not true mosses but simple vascular plants. Like ferns, Selaginella produce spores; unlike the ferns, the spikemosses produce macro- and microspores. Microspores contain the male gametophyte, while the macrospores contain the female gametophyte. This collection can be grown as a lush ground cover; all of these species grow in dense mats close to the ground. Alternatively, spikemosses fit well into lessons on life cycle strategies in plants.
