Heat source should not exceed 100° C and cold source should not be below −20° C.

Avoid rough handling. This is a delicate instrument and the connections between the flywheel and pistons can be damaged. Always hold and handle by the base only to protect the delicate pieces. Item ships in a sturdy box that may be used for storage.

To ensure that the engine works well, perform the following 2 steps before each experiment:

    1. Rotate the flywheel by hand. The flywheel, connecting rods, and pistons should move freely and without resistance.
    2. Check that the connecting rods are properly seated. Linkages to the piston should move freely.

This engine is precision-manufactured; no special lubrication is required.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good quality, fair performance Very good quality. The engine is reluctant to start and stay running. About the only way I can get it to run is to place it on a cup of hot water and put a piece of ice on the cold side (on top). Then it runs very well. But, it doesn't run using the ambient air temperature on the cold side.
