Living Organism Care Information

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 4 dead on arrival, injured survivors. When these arrived, I was very excited. I had prepared a lepidtarium for the adults after doing research on how best to care for them. However, when I unpacked them, I noticed only two had a healthy color to them and responded to touch when I placed them in their enclosure. The other four were stagnant. Despite this, I placed them in their enclosure and hoped for the best. They were placed in a warm, well ventilated room and checked on daily for developments. As I suspected, only two were alive, the others hadn't moved since arrival. When the two survivors hatched, I quickly noticed that the female had not properly developed wings or a proper proboscis during pupation. She emerged unable to fly and feed, and I don't expect her to last the week. I've provided a shallow dish with sugar water soaked paper towels, but she is unable to feed from it even with assistance. The male was better off, but still emerged with a slightly injured wing and a missing leg. I can only hope that he is able to fly. I am very disappointed with the health and handling of these pupae, especially given the time and money I put into obtaining them, preparing a lepidtarium, and anxiously waiting for them to emerge. I sincerely hope that Carolina Biological Supply take steps to ensure healthy, living pupae reach their customers in the future.
