Used to demonstrate that the basic structure of a motor and electric generator is the same. All parts of this apparatus are clearly visible. By turning the handcrank, a voltage can be generated that lights up an LED connected to the unit's terminals. By removing the LED and connecting a voltage source to the device, the unit acts as a motor. Mounted on a wooden base. The permanent magnet is removable. Instructions included.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Motor / Generator My eighth graders had been studying basic principles of electromagnetism, this motor/ generator was exactly what I needed to demonstrate the inverse relationship between these two inventions. The device arrived in good condition, proved easy to assemble (just attach the belt and magnet)--and easy to operate. With large wire coils, field magenet, brushes, and commutators all readily visible, the students could see how it worked. Used as a generator, the device lights a plug-in LED (nice feature). Connect to a 6V battery (battery and leads not included), it becomes a motor. The weakest feature is the generator crank/pulley, which isn't as sturdy as the rest of the apparatus, and wobbles when turned by hand. Another minor disappointment was that the motor turned relatively slowly. An indispensable addition to my electromagnetism lab at a very reasonable price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Little Small I found the motor generator kit to be sufficient in all areas except it was a bit small for viewing in a larger class. The workings of the unit is great. The ability to explain the physics behind the unit was simple. Again, a great piece for explaining, but it would be much better if it were 50% larger.
