BBC Micro:bit Microcontroller

$40.70
(in stock)

Description

The BBC Micro:bit is a pocket-sized programmable microcontroller designed to create a wide variety of projects, from robots to musical instruments—the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Students can program the Micro:bit using Microsoft® MakeCode (block language), Java™, or Python™.

The device includes 25 red LED lights that are programmable. You can skip songs on a playlist, detect motion with an accelerometer, or determine direction with a built-in magnetometer. The Bluetooth® Low Energy connection helps you interact with other devices and the Internet. Two programmable buttons are included to control games or pause.

Additional Micro:bit features:

  • Microprocessor: 32-bit ARM® Cortex™-M0 CPU
  • 16KB RAM, 16 MHz, with Bluetooth® Low Energy
  • 5x5 LED matrix with 25 red LEDs to light up and display animated patterns, scrolling text, and alphanumeric characters
  • 2 programmable buttons; use them as a game controller or to control music on a smartphone
  • On-board motion detector or 3-AXIS digital accelerometer that detects acceleration and movement (e.g., shake, tilt, or free-fall)
  • Built-in compass and 3D magnetometer to sense direction and your movement in degrees; certain metals and magnets are also detectable
  • Bluetooth® Low Energy technology that connects the Micro:bit to other Micro:bits, devices, phones, tablets, cameras, and similar everyday objects
  • 5-ring input and output (I/O), including power (PWR), ground (GRD), and 3 x I/Ol, to read values from sensors and control things such as motors or robots
  • 20-pin edge connector, allowing the Micro:bit to connect to other devices such as Raspberry Pi® computers, Arduino® boards, Galileo® boards, and Kano® computers through a standard connector
  • Micro-USB controller, which is controlled by a separate processor and presents the Micro:bit to a computer as a memory stick
  • System LED x 1 yellow
  • System push button switch x 2

The BBC Micro:bit is also used for the Hummingbird™ robotics kits (items #759100, #759101, #759104, #759106 and #759108). Comes with a micro-USB cable. Online teacher resources are available.

Due to current high demand, we are restricting a quantity of 5 per customer until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.
