In this Science Buddies science project, you will explore chemotactic responses of P. polycephalum in culture exposed to various amounts of glucose. You can customize this kit to include the Physarum polycephalum kit, different sized graduate cylinders, and beaker needed to complete this experiment.

In this biology science fair project, you will observe how the Physarum polycephalum (P. polycephalum) organism responds to various amounts of glucose. P. polycephalum is easy to grow in a petri dish and responds in complex ways to its environment. Will it grow toward the chemical as it looks for a meal, or will it flee, trying to avoid further contact? Try this science fair project to learn more about chemotaxis in the fascinating Physarum polycephalum.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Measurement starts at 25ml??? I wish that I had looked closely at the picture before purchase. The measurements start at 25 ml and not at 0 ml. This is purchase was unfortunate because I may need to collect data below 25 ml. I called customer service and they had to speak with a product manager to ask about cylinders that could start at 0. She was told that there are none.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a Science Fair Project My daughter repurposed this kit for a simpler set of experiments involving the effect of environmental conditions on slime mold growth and development for an 8th Grade science fair project. While the kit did contain more petri dishes and agar than she needed, we now have a great set of supplies for future culturing experiments (and may even try and keep the P. polycephalum that was delivered--named Lenny--alive for the forseeable future via continuing transplants to new media.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portable The base is detached. I bundled 12 cylinders with a rubber band, stacked the bases and transported in a box without worry. Suitable for science fair experiment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to use and store The gloves come in a small box which is great for storing large amounts between use but several students have had gloved rip during use which is problematic. However, I'm not sure if the fault lies with the gloved or with the students.
