Reaction Rate of an Antacid Kit

Item # 841166 Exclusive This product is exclusive to Carolina Biological Supply. With Digital This kit includes 1-year access to digital resources including videos, digital teacher’s manuals, printable student guides, interactive lessons, editable assessment questions, and more.

Product Highlights

  • Observe the rate of an acid/base neutralization reaction between hydrochloric acid and calcium carbonate.
  • High school modeling activity with manipulatives and enough materials for 15 lab groups.
  • Carolina Kits 3D®—Labs that use phenomena to support NGSS and 3-dimensional instruction.

In stock and available to ship.

Students investigate the relationship between reactant concentration and reaction rate based on the real-world scenario of a person with acid indigestion consuming an antacid tablet. The reaction rate is quantified by collecting the volume of carbon dioxide gas collected over time using a water displacement technique. Students will address the driving question, “How does the concentration of hydrochloric acid affect the reaction rate for the reaction that occurs when someone consumes a calcium carbonate antacid?”

Time Requirement
Total, 130 minutes. Teacher prep, 30 minutes. Pre-lab, 10 minutes. Investigation, 60 minutes. Assessment, 30 minutes.

Digital Resources
Includes 1-year access to digital resources that support 3-dimensional instruction for NGSS. Digital resources may include a teacher manual and student guide, pre-lab activities and setup videos, phenomenon videos, simulations, and post-lab analysis and assessments.
