Our materials are for use in the experiments developed by the yeast genetics educational network (GENE project) created by Dr. Tom Manney at Kansas State University. The materials and experiments have been well received by teachers throughout the country. Some of the experiments have been adopted by programs such as Access Excellence, Woodrow Wilson, TERC, several Howard Hughes Programs, and others. These experiments are great for hands on teaching of some of the basic concepts in genetics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Work well for SPF experiment A group of my students used the UV sensitive strain for about two weeks to test the effectiveness of different formulations of sunscreens. They made several starter plates on YED media for about 2 weeks. As expected, the number of colonies on their starter plates decreased over time, but they were able to culture viable yeast until the very end of their project. I am happy with the purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Vial came with NO colonies I have ordered this before and received colonies that were ready to plate onto a master and very viable. But with this last order, the vial came with zero colony growth. Very disappointing. I would not recommend this product until quality control of this product is improved to ensure that viable colonies arrive to purchaser.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to culture and bright red color This strain and the H_2 strains have been great. They culture in 3 days reliably, have a nice bright color, and mix with the opposite mating type easily. Highly recommended to show phenotype/genotype to students. Shipping also also fast and reliable.
