Zebra fish are easy to breed in the classroom. This hardy fish is widely used in the study of embryology, environmental science, biotechnology, and genetics, providing countless opportunities for hands-on science explorations. Use this simple kit to continuously produce fertile zebra fish eggs in your classroom. Because the eggs are transparent, embryological development can be observed in the 3 to 4 days before hatching under low-power magnification in a petri dish. Fertile eggs can also be used as biological assays of local water quality.

The Deluxe Kit includes fish, tank and tank supplies, and breeding tank and supplies; the Basic Kit includes fish and breeding tank and supplies. Both come with complete instructions and suggested activities. Note: Kit items #145557 and 145558 contain coupon for prepaid delivery of live materials later at your convenience; kit item #145557P ships with live materials included.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing teachers manual, cheap components This kit is VERY expensive for what you get. The plasticware in the kit can be found anywhere for cheap, the breeding tank is of poor quality (Petco has a much better one for only $7). Also, the photo shows tubing but this is not included (the written description does not list tubing). The biggest disappointment was the teachers manual. ALL of the info about zebrafish development can be found online for free and the "suggested student activities" is just a bulleted list of ideas - no worksheets, no instructions. We haven't gotten the fish yet (waiting for after spring break), hopefully they will arrive healthy and ready to breed. My advice: do not buy this kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from overall works well Everything is included with this kit, all you would need. Here's the problem, most of the materials can be sourced at local pet stores for less, 10 gal tank & hood, food, etc. I needed to get another tank for the eggs to hatch in or the adults would eat them, if the internal filter was meant to be used for the fry you would have to wait 3 months as they would get sucked into it. The information is great, but can be accessed on-line, so do your homework before you buy. It is a great idea to incorporate this into the classroom, very successful.
