A microscope slide showing Obelia, a hydroid colony. This slide shows reproductive and vegetative polyps.
Investigate the simple structure of Obelia, a colonial marine cnidarian. The vegetative polyps, gastrozooids, are responsible for feeding and have easily identifiable characteristics, such as the mouth and tentacles. Students can also find the gonozooids, or reproductive polyps, that contain the small medusa buds.
