Description

Acetic acid bacteria are used in the commercial production of vinegar. Students culture 2 acetic acid bacteria on bromocresol green agar containing ethanol. As the ethanol is oxidized, students can observe a color change in the agar. The exercise requires 4 to 6 days from setup to completion. Keep bacteria and fungus cultures at room temperature. This easy to perform activity requires some basic training in microbiology. Enough materials for a class of 30. Perishable materials included.
