This oligodynamic effect of metals on microbes has been utilized in the manufacture of ointments, bandages, medications, and used in water purification. Students examine the inhibitory effect of heavy metals on bacteria and gain an understanding of where heavy metals are found in common household objects. Requires 2 to 3 days from setup to completion.
Note:Keep bacteria culture at room temperature; do not incubate or refrigerate.
