For a class of 30. All fungi and some bacteria form spores that have a reproductive function. Only bacterial endospores allow the microbe to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Students subject 3 bacteria and 3 fungi to boiling; only the endospore-forming Bacillus cereus survives this treatment. Students will learn the problems endospores cause in the medical and food service communities.
