Ultraviolet light has the ability to destroy bacterial and fungal spores. Students subject a pigmented bacterium, Serratia marcescens D1, to ultraviolet light (directly and indirectly) at varying time frames to evaluate lethal damage to the bacterial growth. An incubator is not needed; a pipet aid and desk lamp are needed but not included. This kit comes with the 18" UV lightbulb. Includes perishable materials.

Note: Keep bacteria at room temperature; do not incubate or refrigerate.
CAUTION: UV light can cause damage to the eyes if looked at directly.
