The laboratory kit introduces students to gel electrophoresis, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and short tandem repeat (STR) DNA analysis.

During the lab, students pour agarose gels, load DNA, run the gel, and analyze results to determine identity and paternity of victims. Who was present at the crime scene may also be determined. The kit includes supplies for up to 30 students working in 6 groups and is matched to National Science Education Standards. Fully illustrated teacher's manual provides technique background.

Note: Kit is very heat sensitive and arrives with at least 6 months of shelf life; refrigerate kit contents immediately upon arrival.
