Anabaena sp. These cyanobacteria beads are made from Carolina's concentrated Anabaena stock and are ready for immediate use in the classroom. Add a pH indicator and place in bright light to watch the effect of photosynthesis on acid in the water. Remove from the light, and respiration will re-acidify the surrounding water. The beads are robust and don't break down quickly. Can be stored for several weeks in the refrigerator and reused multiple times.

These cyanobacteria beads are made from Carolina's concentrated Anabaena stock and are ready for immediate use in the classroom. Add a pH indicator and place in bright light to watch the effect of photosynthesis on acid in the water. Remove from the light and respiration will re-acidify the surrounding water. The beads are robust and don't break down quickly. Can be stored for several weeks in the refrigerator and reused multiple times. Simply rinse the beads with deionized or spring water.
Compare these beads with Carolina's Algae Beads, Chlorella (item #152066). Compared to Chlorella, Anabaena have much lower light requirements, and the difference in reaction rates at different light levels is a great jumping-off point for discussions about ecological niche and energetic trade-offs.
