Description

Introduce students to forensic soil analysis by challenging them to solve a crime using soil and glass samples that have been recovered from a crime scene and various suspects. Students first compare samples based on physical observations using polarized, UV, and standard light. They then examine the properties of the samples by measuring particle size distributions, material acidity, particle density gradient, and mineral composition. Aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards.

Product Details
Introduce students to the field of forensic soil analysis by challenging them to solve a crime using soil and glass samples that have been recovered from a crime scene and various suspects. Students first compare samples based on physical observations using polarized, UV, and standard light, both under ambient conditions and after heating the samples. They then examine the properties of the samples by measuring particle size distributions, material acidity, particle density gradient, and mineral composition. Aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards* (NGSS), this kit is perfect for teaching soil evidence in a CTE forensics course or for forensic science students.
