Microscope slide showing the general structures of the blue mold, Penicillium.
Have students explore the microscopic structure of the familiar fungus Penicillium using this whole mount prepared slide. Students can easily identify the simple or branched conidiophores with conidia, or round mitotic spores. Together, these structures look like tiny paint brushes. In addition, the mycelium or hyphae are also easy to identify.
