Product Highlights
This fungi culture (rank: Basidiomycetes) is a widely distributed saprobe that thrives on hardwoods throughout much of the world. Strains from eastern North America display the brightest luminescence and are one source of the phenomenon described by early settlers as foxfire.
It is cultured on bread crumb agar at 25° C. Luminescence will be visible in areas of white mycelial growth about 10 days after subculturing just as the root-like rhizomorphs begin to form. To view the bioluminescence, you need to find a place of total darkness. It may take 5 to 10 minutes in the dark for your eyes to adjust to see the low-intensity, pale green glow emitted by the fungus.
Every culture is guaranteed for purity and genera. We maintain a large inventory of cultures for immediate delivery, so you can always depend on getting the one you need when you need it.
Fungi cultures are labeled by name and media on which they are cultivated. Fungi should be incubated at room temperature (25° C). Special packaging and transportation costs are extra.
