Description

Open students' eyes to the genetic basis of inheritance with this simple lab. The kit investigations clearly demonstrate the induced uptake of a jellyfish gene by E. coli. Students observe the phenotypic effect of adding the gene for GFP (green fluorescent protein). GFP is expressed on plain LB—no color development substrate or induction reagent is needed. Students can easily view the "green" effects in normal classroom lighting. Materials are sufficient for 8 student lab stations or groups.

Product Details
Intermediate—Easy to perform; requires some background knowledge.
What are reporter molecules and why is GFP the reporter molecule preferred by researchers?
Open your students' eyes to the genetic basis of inheritance with this simple lab. Developed in cooperation with the DNA Learning Center, this kit clearly demonstrates the induced uptake of a jellyfish gene by E. coli.
