Grades 9–12. The 7 activities in this kit explore the law of conservation of energy. Students learn the difference between heat and temperature; measure the heat of fusion of ice; observe convection, conduction, and radiation; calibrate an unmarked thermometer; and determine the heat of combustion of paraffin. Provides experience using compound bars, radiometers, and calorimeters. Instructions included. Materials are sufficient for 30 students working in pairs.
