Use this prepared slide to teach the morphology of cardiac muscle. This type of muscle is only found in the heart and is involuntarily controlled. Like skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle fibers are striated; however, they contain only 1 nucleus per fiber. Cardiac muscle also contains intercalated discs, which allow adjacent muscle fibers to maintain an electrical connection. This is essential for heart contractions. Easily identify striated muscle fibers, visible nuclei, and intercalated discs. Stained with hematoxylin and eosin.
