Description

Grades 9–12. Students investigate reversible reactions and equilibrium. Using this knowledge, they investigate Le Châtelier's principle, shifting equilibrium through the common ion effect and by varying the concentration of reactants. Kit includes materials for at least 30 students working in groups.

  • Investigate Le Châtelier's principle using colorful, reversible reactions
  • Determine the solubility product of a salt
  • Help students meet the Next Generation Science Standards Performance Expectation HS-PS1-6: Refine the design of a chemical system by specifying a change in conditions that would produce increased amounts of products at equilibrium

Grades 9–12. With this guided-inquiry kit, students investigate reversible reactions and equilibrium. They first shift the equilibrium reaction of a weak organic acid, and then determine the solubility product of a slightly soluble base. Students also investigate Le Châtelier's principle, shifting equilibrium through the common ion effect and by varying the concentration of reactants. In the capstone activity of this kit, students design an experiment using Le Châtelier's principle to determine whether an equilibrium reaction is exothermic or endothermic. Kit includes enough materials for at least 30 students working in groups. Receive a FREE digital teacher's manual and student guide with kit purchase.
