Students discover how metals can vary in chemical activity and use this knowledge to test combinations of metals to produce voltaic cells. They use the cell with the highest voltage output to power various electrical devices and an electrolytic cell for extracting elements and plating metals. Finally, students design experiments to investigate variables that could affect the voltage and amperage of their voltaic cell.
