Grades 9-12. For a class of 30. This single-period lab provides an easy visual method for determining the rate of fermentation changes as a function of sugar concentration. Students estimate the rate of fermentation using the time needed for yeast to produce enough carbon dioxide to acidify the medium. This change in acidity causes an indicator to change from blue to green.
