This kit includes an amphioxus (subphylum Cephalochordata), lamprey (superclass Agnatha), dogfish shark (class Chondrichthyes), perch (class Actinopterygii), frog (class Amphibia), turtle (class Reptilia), pigeon (class Aves), and rat (class Mammalia).

This hands-on activity allows students to:

  • Examine the internal and external anatomy of each specimen
  • Explore the diversity of the Chordata phylum
  • Make evolutionary connections between classes

Specimens can be used as teacher demonstration models or for dissection by students working in groups at separate stations.

The included teacher's manual contains extension activities and a reproducible student guide. The student guide contains background information, dissection guides for each specimen, and reflection questions.
