Travel through geologic time with this exploration of plant evolution. Students examine green algae, liverwort, Selaginella, fern, gymnosperm, and angiosperm living plant tissue. They look closely at slides of mycorrhizae, vascular tissue, stomata, and pollen to determine how plant adaptations contributed to the evolutionary success of terrestrial plants. Then students use toluidine blue to observe differences in vascular tissue among living plants. For 30 students working in groups of 3 or 4.
