Designed to determine whether an organism can ferment dextrose. Phenol red turns yellow when fermentation occurs and a Durham tube is included to determine gas production. Use with Bacillus cereus or Escherichia coli species of bacteria to demonstrate positive results and Branhamella (Moraxella) catarrhalis or Alcaligenes faecalis to demonstrate negative reaction. It is recommended that prepared media tubes be used within 3 months of receipt for best results. Note: The species listed are not an inclusive list and are provided to assist novice users in selecting compatible media and bacteria.
