Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bursaria I lovd this specimen. As a bonus, the bottle also was teeming with Spirostomum so I got to learn about two fascinating organisms for the price of one. The Burdsaria are so beautiful, transparent and refractile bouncing around creating current with their cilia. They ingested blepharisma when I combined the two cultures. Fascinating stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spirostomum rules Grows really well with minimum fuss and very nice to illustrate ciliate size and the famous startle response.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tons of Stentor! Some microscope views would have up to 6 stentor at once!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great samples! All the samples arrived in a timely fashion in great condition, especially considering it was cold outside and I wasn't sure how they would do with the weather conditions. The kids were really excited to see them moving about and even observed some other unicellular organisms swimming about. I think it is important to note that one container is PLENTY. I ordered three because I teach about 90 students, but you really only need one or two...one drop is all it takes! I took empty film canisters (about 8 of them) and filled each of those about halfway with the culture. I broke the students up into groups of 3 or 4 and gave them each a canister. They added just one drop to their slides and had at least 3-4 specimens swimming about. The canisters lasted for all four sections I teach.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from High contamination by rotifers Bought two stentor samples and each of them had high number of rotifers . In less than a week, the culture had an overpopulation of rotifers and it was difficult to pick out individual stentors without taking along some rotifers. Disapppointing since I had called up carolina to check if they had rotifer contamination prior to ordering.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Doesn't always last long I have heard in the past that Paramecium don't last long. The first 5 times I ordered them, the Paramecium lasted several weeks. The jars arrived with a reasonable amount of organisms for the volume and food. This last batch I got was teeming with Paramecium. When they arrived last week, they were very active. By Tuesday, there were few left and they are moving sluggishly. I aerate them most weekdays but they still are barely making it a week. I have had to put out prepared slides of the organism for my labs later in the week to make sure my students can see the organism. It's more fun when they are zipping all over and the students have to try to focus on them before the Paramecium vanish from the field of view (even using Protoslo).
