Age 4 and up. Designed to support a single student group, the Cubelets® Brilliant Builder Set lets students construct numerous structures as they complete challenge after challenge. Set includes 19 Cubelets® and the Bluetooth® Hat. Cubelets® combine software and hardware, enabling you to build robots with different behaviors to create a program. This effectively teaches programming principles with hands-on coding!

Each Cubelet has a distinct function and is categorized as one of 3 types:

  • Sense Cubelets® acquire data (information) from the robot's environment
  • Think Cubelets® compute and change that information
  • Act Cubelets® translate that information into physical action

The magnetic faces of Cubelets® easily snap together and pull apart. Connect at least 2 Sense, Think, and Act Cubelets® to create a robot construction. The included yellow brick adapters connect Cubelets® to LEGO® and other brick building-block toys for more fun.

The Cubelets® app enables you to modify software blocks inside each Cubelet. The Remote Control feature allows users to manipulate individual Cubelets® or change the behavior of an entire robot construction. Cubelets® come preloaded with the newest Cubelets® OS 4 operating system.

Set includes:

  • Bar Graph Cubelet: Displays the block's value as a light-up bar graph; a full input value results in a fully lit graph.
  • Battery Cubelet: Provides energy required to power robot constructions.
  • Blocker Cubelet: A basic building block that blocks data from its neighbors. It passes power but stops communication and can insulate 1 side of a robot from another.
  • Brightness Cubelet: Enables a construction to detect and respond to light.
  • Drive Cubelet: Enables a construction to navigate its world.
  • Distance Cubelet: Enables robotic construction to detect and respond to nearby objects.
  • Flashlight Cubelet: Creates constructions that shine a dimmable LED light.
  • Inverse Cubelet: Flips data values and functions, making low values high and vice versa.
  • Knob Cubelet: Has a potentiometer (a knob that provides a variable resistance) embedded in 1 of its faces; output increases as the knob is turned clockwise.
  • Maximum Cubelet: Accepts many inputs but only passes along those with the greatest value. Using this Cubelet you could build a robot that only performs an action when a sensor reads a value over a certain threshold (as set by a Knob Cubelet).
  • Minimum Cubelet: Accepts any amount of data but only outputs the smallest value it receives. It is handy for creating an on-off switch for a robot and for building robots that do not fall off the edge of a table.
  • Passive Cubelet: Build bigger robots without modifying data values.
  • Rotate Cubelet: Create constructions that whirl and twirl.
  • Speaker Cubelet: Chirps based on the block's data value; it contains a small speaker and an amplifier.
  • Temperature Cubelet: Contains a tiny thermistor that detects temperature; values increase from freezing (freezing = 0).
  • Threshold Cubelet: Has a knob to alter the behavior of the robot. It will output a value of 0 until inputs exceed the threshold set by the knob. Above the threshold, data will flow as normal. Can be used to create robots that react suddenly, gate data flow, or exhibit binary behavior.
  • Bluetooth® Hat: Pairs robot constructions with mobile devices. A simple, proximity-based pairing makes connecting easy. Cap your creations with the Bluetooth® Hat, adding new abilities with the free Cubelets® app (iOS®, Android™, and Amazon Fire® OS compatible).
  • Brick Adapters: Add style and expand building capabilities with LEGO® or other brick building-block toys (LEGO® bricks not included).
  • Micro-USB Charging Cable: Charges your Cubelets®.
  • Remote Control App: Pair robot constructions with free companion apps to change behavior.

Programming options are available, including Blockly, a block-based (drag and drop) programming language from Google®, and Flash (C based) for higher grades (see the Resources tab).
