Grades 3–5. Land and water work together to create the earth we know. Flowing water carves out the landscape. Forces inside the earth move continents, build mountains, and cause volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Land and Water, part of the STC Literacy Series™, helps students understand these processes with engaging stories about how the land changes over time, how and why we find and use water, and what it's like to explore different parts of the earth.

Grades 3–5. Students will read about the actions of earthquakes, volcanoes, rivers, and oceans. The book explains the importance of water in our lives—how it keeps us and our crops alive. There is also a story on the aesthetics of water, told through an ancient Chinese painting of a river scene. The final section of this book highlights scientists' investigations of natural phenomena, including a history of weather.
Developed to enhance the teaching of the Science and Technology Concepts™ (STC™) unit, the STC Literacy Series™ Land and Water reader supports inquiry-based science lessons with engaging informational text. The content gives students a natural transition from hands-on investigations, builds background knowledge to reinforce conceptual learning, and lets students apply relevant nonfiction to their own real-world experiences. Questions provided throughout the book encourage critical thinking and allow children to be actively involved in their learning.
