STC-Secondary™: Investigating Biodiversity and Interdependence 5-Class Unit Kit

$2,621.95
(backordered: in stock 6/2/23)

Description

Grades 6–10. Investigating Biodiversity and Interdependence introduces students to the structure, function, and diversity of living things.

The 5-Class Unit Kit comes with Teacher's Edition, unit technology pack (digital access to the teacher edition and digital student access to the student guide), 16 reusable hardbound Student Guides (item #977003), and the materials needed for a teacher to teach up to 5 classes of 32 students per day.

STC-Secondary™ is a 16-unit, inquiry-centered middle school science curriculum developed by the Smithsonian Science Education Center (SSEC). Each STC-Secondary™ unit provides opportunities for students to experience scientific phenomena firsthand. A comprehensive, research-based curriculum, STC-Secondary™ is aligned with the National Science Education Standards.

Benefits of using this kit:

  • Conceptual sequence helps students retain and apply knowledge and experience to problem-solving strategies in new contexts
  • Hands-on activities are often completed with lower levels of student disruptions, which allow teachers to summarize the results and meaning of the activities
  • Supports STEM initiatives as students work to develop 21st-century skills in science, math, technology, and engineering to prepare for careers in the global marketplace
  • Fosters a positive attitude toward science

Each lesson in Investigating Biodiversity and Interdependence builds on skills and concepts presented in previous lessons. The unit begins with an assessment of students' current understanding of the topic and ends with performance-based and written assessments. As students progress through the module, they take greater responsibility for their own learning, eventually planning and conducting their own procedures, devising their own data tables, and analyzing the results they obtain.
