Grades 812. For a class of 32 students. This kit, previously titled Wisconsin Fast Plants® Life in Balance: Plants and Butterfly Kit, tracks the tandem life cycles of petite, quick-growing Brassica plants and their hardy, natural predator, Pieris rapae, so students can observe dynamic interactions that are impossible to ignore. By exploring the interaction and development of plant and butterfly, students learn how real scientific investigations work. In this activity, students care for and observe 2 organisms throughout their brief life cycles of 35 to 40 days. Kit includes everything needed except water, some grocery store vegetables, sugar, and a light source. We recommend the Plant Light House® with LED (item #159004). Total experiment time varies from 40 to 80 days (depending on whether students raise a second generation). Note: Kit includes voucher with reference number for prepaid delivery of butterfly eggs; request eggs to arrive when plants are 4 to 6 days old.
