Description

Students observe and measure properties such as water-holding capacity, ion-exchange capacity, macronutrient content, and particle-size distribution to determine which types soil are the most productive for growing plants. Students then test their hypothesis by planting alfalfa to track success. The kit is designed for 1 group of 4 students.

Exploring different characteristics of soil provides insight into how productive it might be for farming purposes. Students conduct experiments on different types of soil to observe and measure properties such as water-holding capacity, ion-exchange capacity, macronutrient content, and particle-size distribution to determine which types soil are the most productive for growing plants. Students then test their hypothesis by planting alfalfa to track success.
